Toenail Fungus Home Treatment

Toenail fungus is a very common ailment that is suffered by millions of people all over the world. That being said, a lot of prescription and over the counter medications as well as home remedies have sprouted over time. This makes it easier for sufferers to choose which type of treatment will work best on their condition. A specific treatment method may work on one individual but may not work on another. That is why it is important to consult a doctor first and consider the severity of your condition and your budget in choosing the best option.

Home remedies are the most inexpensive options when it comes to curing toenail infection. Toenail fungus home treatments are aplenty so you don’t have to worry about one not working because you still have several backups to choose from. Home treatments are favored not only by those who are cash strapped but also those who want easy, no-fuss methods in getting rid of their infection.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple cider vinegar or any other vinegar available in your home can be used as a treatment. You can soak the infected foot in this solution: one part each of apple cider vinegar and Epsom salts and six parts water. Soak your foot for up to 15 minutes before rinsing. You can apply it directly onto the infection. Another way is to take it internally, meaning you can drink one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar dissolved in a cup of warm water. Either way the acid in the vinegar will make way for the elimination of the infection.
  2. Tea Tree Oil. This is another popular home remedy that many people swear by. As an antiseptic and antifungal element, you can pour a few drops of this essential oil onto the infected toenail and the surrounding skin. Ten minutes is all you need for the oil to be absorbed. Afterwards you can go about your business. Do this daily and you will see a new nail growing from the cuticle outwards.
  3. When your body’s pH balance is out of whack, the growth of bacteria and fungi in your body is rapid. During this time when your pH balance is poor is when fungi inhabit themselves in your body, specifically in your toenails and skin. Probiotic supplements will balance out your pH, which will in turn block the growth of fungi on your foot or feet. Probiotic medications contain lactobacillus, good bacteria which give off a by-products that is fatal to Candida, the bacteria known for propagating the growth of toenail fungus.
  4. Coconut Oil. Candida is the main culprit for causing infections in the human body, and this includes toenail fungus. Coconut oil contains caprylic acid that can break down Candida and effectively kill off the fungi. As with other oils, you only have to apply coconut oil directly onto the infected nail. Repeat this procedure as many times a day as you can as coconut oil is a natural ingredient and does not have negative side effects of overuse.
